Warning signs

Could ear wax be getting in the way?

Ear wax is normal and protects the ear. It only becomes a problem when it builds up and causes symptoms.

Sounds seem muffled

Conversations, television or everyday sounds suddenly feel less clear.

A blocked or full feeling

Pressure, fullness or the feeling that something is sitting in the ear.

Ringing or buzzing

New or more noticeable tinnitus can sometimes accompany a wax build-up.

Your hearing aids whistle

Wax can affect the fit and performance of a hearing aid or block its speaker.

Symptoms such as hearing loss, earache, a blocked feeling, tinnitus and dizziness can be associated with wax - but they can have other causes too. That is why looking first matters.

Care you can see and understand

Real clinicians. Clear explanations.

We will explain what we can see, whether wax removal is suitable and what happens next. You can ask questions at every stage, and treatment only begins once your ears have been checked.

  • Your symptoms and ear history are considered first
  • Your ear canal is viewed throughout treatment
  • You leave with clear, personalised advice

Before you try a quick fix

Your ears are designed to clean themselves.

Cotton buds and other objects can push wax deeper, injure the delicate ear canal or damage the eardrum. The NHS also says there is no evidence that ear candles or home ear vacuums remove wax.

DoAsk a pharmacist or trained ear-care professional for advice.
Don’tPut cotton buds, tools, fingers, candles or vacuum devices inside the ear.

Your appointment

Four careful steps. No assumptions.

01

We listen first

Your clinician asks about your symptoms, ear health and relevant medical history.

02

We look before we treat

High-definition video otoscopy gives a clear view of the ear canal and eardrum.

03

We choose the right next step

If wax is present and removal is suitable, it is removed under direct visual guidance.

04

We check again

Your ears are examined afterwards and you receive clear, personalised aftercare advice.

Please do not wait for a wax appointment

Some symptoms need urgent medical advice.

If you have sudden hearing loss, hearing that has worsened over days or weeks, or hearing loss with earache or discharge, ask for an urgent GP appointment or contact NHS 111.

Simple, professional ear care

Clear ears start with a clear view.

Microsuction appointments are usually £60. Promotional appointments may sometimes be available for £30; current availability and pricing are shown when you book.

What you are choosing

  • Clinical judgement - not a one-size-fits-all home remedy.
  • Direct visualisation - the ear is examined before, during and after.
  • A route forward - if wax is not the cause, you receive appropriate next-step advice.

Common questions

Before you book

Can I remove ear wax at home?

Some wax clears naturally. A pharmacist can advise whether wax-softening drops may be suitable. Do not use drops if you know you have a perforated eardrum, and seek professional advice if you have a history of ear surgery, recent infection or are unsure.

What does microsuction feel like?

Microsuction uses a fine suction device while the clinician views the ear canal. It can sound noisy and may occasionally feel uncomfortable, particularly when wax is hard. Tell your clinician immediately if you need a pause.

What if wax is not causing the problem?

The examination comes first. If there is no wax, or removal is not appropriate, your clinician can explain what they can see and advise you on the most suitable next step.

Should I use oil before my appointment?

Follow the preparation instructions provided with your booking. Contact the clinic before using drops if you have a known or possible perforation, recent infection, previous ear surgery or any uncertainty about your ear health.
